CHASE COY'S DEBUT ALBUM "PICTURESQUE" (UNIVERSAL REPUBLIC) DROPS TUESDAY, JUNE 1ST - FIRST SINGLE, "IF THE MOON FELL DOWN," FEATURING COLBIE CAILLAT
What can be said about Chase Coy right now? Well, besides the fact that he picked up a guitar at age 10, started writing songs at 16 years-old in his parents basement, and now at age 19 is set to release his debut album on a major record label.
The Greenwood, Indiana native wrote of his early music career on his Facebook page,
“For the past three years, I've pretty much stowed away in my basement and spent my time writing and recording home demos, which I have now released in a compilation on iTunes called Where the Road Parts. These became the foundation for a record that I spent the past year or so of my life creating: Picturesque.”
Picturesque is Chase Coy's debut album out June 1st on Universal Republic.
He continues, “This record has turned out to be more than I ever expected it to be. After stepping out of my basement, I embarked on a journey that has helped me grow both as a person and as a musician; I have met new friends, seen new places, and been able to pursue a vision for my music that I had only dreamt of in my little basement in Indiana.”
“The result is something that I hope will both move and inspire you; something that you can find beauty in, and that will give you hope. I hope that it will restore your faith in love if you've lost it, and most of all, I hope that by listening to it you will learn more about yourself and the world around you.”
“These songs are my thoughts and feelings; my memories and my rescue when I need it most. This is the music that helps me make sense of the world when nothing else can, and I only hope that it can do the same for you.”
What a way to launch a music career, Coy's first radio single off Picturesque features a duet with Grammy Award-winning singer-songwriter Colbie Caillat for If The Moon Fell Down, Coy said in a press release about working with Caillat, “Her voice has so much character and warmth to it. I just thought she could bring a certain tenderness and intimacy to the track that I was looking for.”
About Picturesque - Now he’s just looking forward to people hearing it. “The great thing about music is that as soon as people listen to the songs, they begin to mean different things to them than they do to me,” he says. “As soon as people hear it, it’s not my record anymore, it's their record. They're going to interpret the songs in different ways and feel different things. As long as it makes them feel something, that’s the whole point of making music to me.”
Coy is ready to embark on a career of being considered a top singer-songwriter, giving the likes of Jason Mraz, John Mayer, and Jack Johnson, a tap on their shoulder. Chase Coy isn't far behind. A singer-songwriter ahead of his time with nothing to gain but more inspiration for being the best musician he can be. His earliest three EP’s caught on, consistently earning Coy a slot on the iTunes Top 100 singer-songwriter chart. In 2008, iTunes named him one of the best new singer-songwriters of the year, and an earlier version of If The Moon Fell Down Tonight was featured on an iTunes Essentials Rising Stars compilation. His songs featured on his MySpace page have had well over 18 million plays.
All this at 19 years-old - we can only wonder what 20 and beyond will inspire in the young artist.
