The actor Shia LeBeouf graces the latest issue of Details Magazine and gives a refreshingly honest interview, unlike many young actors in his category. Those kids from Twilight, for example, are so tightly managed they would never be unable to answer as openly as Lebouf. Taylor Lautner probably has to ask his publicist what is full name is at this point, which is why many people consider him the next Tom Cruise. When your career begins before you have any real insight into yourself and the world around you it is easy to be told what to say and what to think. Remember what happened once Tom Cruise’s publicist ended their professional relationship and his sister took over? The screws came loose. Shia, on the other hand, has little filter, which is why he gets himself into trouble sometimes. But wouldn’t you rather be known as someone who is authentic and has a point of view versus someone manufactured be a studio?
You can read the full article here.
But I have pulled some of the interesting tid bits:
On having a rocky childhood and how it shapes his character:
"LaBeouf doesn't want to change simply to protect his image. He's discussed this at length with Harrison Ford, Gary Oldman, and John Malkovich, not to mention his father. "You should hear how they were living at 24. Everybody's got stories. I don't want to not have stories."
On making out with his Transformers co-star Megan Fox on set:
“Look, you’re on the set for six months, with someone who’s rooting to be attracted to you, and you’re rooting to be attracted to them. I never understood the separation of work and life in that situation. But the time I spent with Megan was our own thing, and I think you can see the chemistry onscreen.”
Problem is (or was) that she was engaged at the time. So what does he think about her now husband?
“I don’t know, man. I don’t know. I don’t know. I don’t know . . .”—repeating the phrase exactly 12 times in various intonations, as if trying to get it just right. Finally, he says, “It was what it was.”
The date he went on with Hillary Duff:
“...Probably the worst date either of us has ever had".
On trying to be diplomatic around fans and such:
“I would like to be George Clooney– diplomatic. I just don’t have the wherewithal yet or the inner serenity. My bullsh-t meter is tuned very sensitive. The minute it starts kicking up, I get back to truth, and sometimes that involves, you know, ‘I don’t want to take a picture.’ And if that’s the case, am I an asshole for being honest? Or am I an asshole for being dishonest, smiling in your picture and I f--king hate being there? Which one is worse? These are the questions I ask myself that George Clooney doesn't ask".
