This week’s Star covers how the majority of top female stars in Hollywood can’t actually stand Gwyneth Paltrow. They cite Jennifer Garner and Jennifer Lopez as examples. “Jennifer Garner compares Gwyneth to “the mean girls in high school”. Jennifer Lopez has described Gwyneth as “a whiny little rich girl… when J.Lo’s publicist told her People had chosen Gwyn as the most beautiful person of the year, Jennifer though it was a joke.”
When they cite these two you have to consider they both have one thing in common with Paltrow…. Ben Affleck.
Lopez was famously engaged to him and some would argue remains somewhat obsessed with losing him. Garner, as you know, has become his first lady and they have a little family of their own. Both Paltrow and Lopez still keep in contact with him too, but not in a respectful way that acknowledges he’s moved on with his life. More in a didn’t-we-almost-have-it-all sort of way. This while Garner is the face of the Affleck family movement. She’s at home baking pies and roasting chicken in a pair of capri cargo pants and some Easy Spirit sandals. She’s on the phone negotiating carpool schedules, pediatric dentist appointments, and runs to the farmer’s market. Her best friends are the mom’s from PTA who also like musical theater and gardening. Paltrow is peddling a lifestyle newsletter that sells $600 silver shot glasses and showing up on the set of Martha Stewart to discuss the joy of eating macrobiotic brown rice bowls. She works out for two hours a day and then brags about being invited over to Jerry Seinfeld’s house for a summer barbecue in a Narciso Rodriguez slip dress. Lopez has a staff make her diet food. Her back-up dancer boyfriend watches her kids while she practices dance moves in front of her wall length mirrors in full body bronzer. She tempts Affleck with emails reminding him of the days they would get down on yachts and how great he looked when she made him wear tighter pants and disco tops. This is what Garner has to deal with despite bearing him children and publicly supporting his bid for Oscar nominations.
Garner is the lady who is the actual mother homemaker. She doesn’t have time to frolic with Kate Hudson in matching leather jackets to London nightclubs or offer Cameron Diaz love advice. She’s too busy making fresh apple pie. She’s not dancing on the set of Britain’s Got Talent in fish nets, a leather leotard, and stiletto boots while getting a rub down by five baby-oiled back up dancers. She’s throwing on some Lee Jeans and a cardigan sweater so she can take the kids to ballet and karate.
And they all pine over Affleck who is probably still thinking about Blake Lively.
