It’s not just us mere mortals who want to win a million or more. Certain celebs aren’t at all shy about taking part in playing the lottery.
Maybe the appeal of winning a load of cash for no effort still appeals to those who already have lots of cash, but have had to work hard to get where they are today. Celebrities may seem to have the perfect lifestyle from our side of the fence, but to them, the way they earn their money must have its downsides too.
Simon Cowell is a big lotto fan, although whether he’ll be buying as many tickets following the price changes in the most popular lottery in the UK remains to be seen! He told journalists at the press conference for his game show Red or Black? that he would always choose anonymity should he win on the lottery. So it goes to show that not all publicity is viewed as good publicity!
There are a number of other celebs who are lottery fans. Apparently George Clooney and Madonna are known to have a flutter or two on the big Italian lottery, although they probably don’t go and queue up for their tickets in person.
Hugh Jackman reportedly regularly buys lotto tickets for everyone on the set of a movie he’s involved with. During the making of Real Steel, he bought 500 lottery tickets a week. Apparently he started making this generous gesture when he first made a movie in the States and was embarrassed about not knowing all the crew members’ names. We don’t know if any of the crew members was lucky enough to win the jackpot with one of Hugh’s tickets though!
We’re unlikely to find out if any of these lotto playing celebs ever actually win the jackpot – and if they did, would they just stash the cash or do something more altruistic with it, like give it to a favourite charity? We’ll never know, but let’s hope they don’t’ get too greedy and just keep it all!
